Effectively responding to the climate crisis requires an urgent and global transformation of society and economy.
Vast sums of climate finance need to be mobilised to fund this transition. The primary institution governing the international response to the climate crisis, and with it, mobilising climate finance, is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
This essay, submitted in 2022 as part of my first of year of my 1+3 PhD in Global Political Economy at the University of Bristol, explores the effectiveness of the UNFCCC at governing the international response to climate crisis by focusing specifically on the issue of channelling climate finance into developing countries, with a particular emphasis on low-carbon energy.
